Asteya & Mindful Moments

Hey everyone,

Thank you so much to everyone who joined me this week for my new Monday midday class. It was fully booked, which made me so happy 🤍 I’m really enjoying teaching my fourth weekly class, and I hope this is just the beginning of more midday classes!

Asteya (non-stealing)

This week’s theme is Asteya, the third yama, often translated as non-stealing. Asteya isn’t just about material things. It also invites us to notice where we might be stealing ideas, energy, joy, or even peace from ourselves.

This can show up as comparison, especially with the rise of social media, where we’re constantly exposed to highlight reels of other people’s lives. Asteya encourages us to gently shift our focus back to our own lives, our own excitement, and what is already here for us, while being mindful of where and how we give our energy.

It’s also about not stealing from the present moment by dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, and being aware of when we take on other people’s negative energy. Instead, we practise staying grounded, content, and fully present with what is 🧘‍♀️

A quote I really love from Yogi Bhajan is:

“Be a forklift. You should always be lifting people up.”

We can’t be positive 100% of the time, of course, but I really resonate with the sentiment behind it.

Intention: I trust my timing

Savasana Music 🎶

I’ve introduced a new Savasana song this week. Despite its name, Inner Solitude, I find it to be a hopeful and peaceful piece of music. I’ve been playing it after the guided meditation, and I’ve shared the link if you’d like to enjoy it at home.

Google Reviews 🤍

If you haven’t already, I’d be so grateful if you could leave a Google review sharing how the classes have made you feel. It truly means a lot to hear your experiences, and it helps support and grow my small business.

You’ll need to be logged into a Google or Gmail account. You can also create one using your regular email address. Thank you so much.

Buying Local Art 🎨

I’ve been going to a local art club for just over a year now, and I absolutely love it. I’m definitely no Van Gogh, but I find it really mindful.

At the end of each term, the teachers host a gallery showcasing students’ artwork, and it’s always amazing. There’s also the opportunity to purchase a piece of art from another student, which I’ve now done twice.

My most recent purchase is a beautiful pink sunset landscape that now lives in my little reading corner 🌅 Last year, I bought a lotus and water lily painting for my yoga studio, which felt very on brand with my logo 🪷

I’m hoping to continue collecting local artwork so that when I eventually move out, I’ll have some lovely original pieces to fill my space.

Next week’s class theme: Brahmacharya (Moderation)

This is definitely the yama I need to work on the most, so I’m happy to be teaching this theme. It’s all about bringing more balance to our day-to-day lives.

See you on the mat next week,
