Hello Spring

Hey everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed this week’s classes!

Spring Equinox

Last week, we celebrated the Spring Equinox (20th March), welcoming the start of spring. I hope you liked the daffodils I handed out 🌼

On this date, the sun shines directly on the Earth’s equator, giving nearly equal daylight and darkness. It marks the shift from gloomy winter to spring’s renewal. Personally, I feel like I’m finally coming out of hibernation… 😂

Intention: With each breath, I invite renewal and growth.

On the theme of spring and spring cleaning, here’s a gentle reminder to give your yoga mat a clean. Here’s the link on how to do it:

Svadhyaya

This week’s theme was our fourth Niyama: Svadhyaya (self-study). It’s about turning inwards and observing our thoughts, habits, and deeper truths, not to judge, but to understand. We already practice it in class by noticing our inner dialogue and choosing poses that feel right for our bodies.

A quote a friend shared with me: “We are not self-improvement projects.” Self-awareness is important, but it can sometimes feel endless. I’ve learned it’s about balance and treating ourselves with the same compassion we’d offer a loved one.

Intention: I turn inwards to meet myself with compassion.

Little updates

🤍 Thank you so much for the amazing response to my upcoming yoga workshops! These will include journaling, full-body yoga practice, meditation, tea and cake, and more. I’m currently planning everything and will share all the details very soon.

🤍 I’ve had two of my friends’ birthdays this past week. For Ivy, we had dinner in Chinatown and saw the musical SIX. It was my second time, and I probably know most of the songs! We went for drinks afterwards, and I have no shame in ordering my tea. I’m a little old lady at heart!

🤍 For Patsy, I decorated my house, cooked her dinner, and made presents and cake. I love celebrating the wonderful people in my life.

🤍 I’m an avid reader, and one of my New Year’s resolutions was to spend less money on books. I’ve loved using my library card at Buckhurst Hill and Loughton libraries 📚

🤍 I’ve also started swapping books with friends and buying second-hand from World of Books, which is better for the planet.

🤍A book I recently loved is Orbital by Samantha Harvey. It was awarded the 2024 Booker Prize and is about six astronauts on the International Space Station who reflect on our beautiful planet.

🤍 I’ve also practised yoga in my garden a few times, which has been so lovely, especially with my daffodils and tulips blooming 🌷

🤍 Over the past three weeks, my sister's boyfriend has been living with us. He's from Vegas; she met him while on her travels. It's been lovely getting to know him and seeing my sister so happy!

Next week’s theme: Isvara Pranidhana

This is our last Niyama, closing the 10-part Yama and Niyama series.

It’s about surrender, letting go of control and trusting something greater. Whether it’s the process, life’s timing, or releasing what we can’t control, remember: you don’t have to carry everything on your own 🤍

See you on the mat next week,
