Hey everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed this week’s classes!
Brahmacharya (moderation)
This week’s theme was Brahmacharya (pronounced bruh-muh-CHAR-yuh), the fourth of the Yamas in yoga. It’s the practice of balance, moderation, and using our energy wisely. Learning to let go of what no longer serves us.
I know I tend to view things in black-and-white, with an all-or-nothing mentality, and I’m learning to see the grey in between.
Using the concept of Brahmacharya in class can involve practising standing or arm balances and choosing the option that works best for your body in that moment. Just because you were able to take a more challenging variation one week doesn’t mean you need to do it every time.
It’s about knowing when to soften, such as relaxing the facial muscles, and when to engage certain muscles. Finding the balance between effort and ease.
Reflection questions from the guided Savasana:
Where does my energy feel full?
Where does it feel drained?
These are great journaling prompts to further reflect on this week’s theme. There’s no need to judge what comes up, just notice.
Intention: I honour my energy and use it wisely.
2 Years of Yoga by Eloise 🎉
I launched Yoga by Eloise on 7th February 2024, teaching my very first Wednesday evening class. Since then, I now teach four classes, and I’m already thinking about class number five.

I’ve definitely felt more confident in my abilities in my second year of business, and I’m really proud of myself. If I could have told 17-year-old Eloise, newly diagnosed with fibromyalgia, or university drunk Eloise what I do now, I wouldn’t have believed it. I’ve been mindful to grow this business at a steady pace, alongside living with fibromyalgia.
By far the best part of all of this has been the community and the friendships I’ve made along the way. It’s been so lovely meeting so many kind, supportive students. Thank you for taking time out of your week to practise with me and with everyone else in the community. It truly means so much.
I’ll be celebrating this weekend with friends, which I’m very much looking forward to.
Next week’s class theme: Valentine’s Day 💕
We’ll be taking a short pause from the Yama series to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Not just romantic love, but also self-love, friendship, and family.

See you on the mat next week,
