3 Years of Being a Yoga Teacher

Hey everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying the weather! Definitely hotter than when I was in Greece recently!!

Joy

To me, joy means finding moments throughout the day to smile. Day-to-day life can sometimes feel mundane, and we are often waiting for the big events, like birthdays, to experience joy - but joy can be with you at any moment.

Even while experiencing a fibromyalgia flare-up, I am trying to focus on the positives. There are so many things around us that bring us joy; we just need to acknowledge them. I hope that through the practice of yoga, you can feel joy through moving your bodies and slowing down your minds.

Intention: I welcome joy into my life and allow myself to receive it fully.

Journalling Prompt: Where can I invite more joy into my everyday life?

My teacher Elena and I

The month of May 2023 was when I completed my 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training in Paleros, Greece. It was a 23-day intensive course where we learned everything from pranayama (breathing techniques), alignment and asana (poses), to philosophy and anatomy.

It was by far the most difficult thing I have ever done. It quite literally felt like an SAS-style yoga bootcamp, where we would wake up at 7 am and finish our days at 7 pm - not including personal study time.

Booking onto the course was a huge leap for me. Just five months earlier, I had dropped out of university due to my fibromyalgia and was unable to walk or read properly. Yet suddenly, I was doing 3–4 hours of physical yoga practice (asana) every single day. I was determined to learn how to teach because I knew how much yoga had benefited my health, and I wanted to share that with others.

During that month, I didn’t just learn about yoga; I learned how strong and determined I can be. At the end of the course, we had a three-hour written exam, and we each had to teach a 30-minute class to the rest of the group, including our teacher. After my very first class, my teacher hugged me and said, “You’ve got it,” which meant so much to me.

Teaching has always felt right for me, and over the past three years of running Yoga by Eloise, I feel I have grown so much in both confidence and ability on the mat.

Thank you for being here and supporting me throughout this journey!
